Conductor: Ron Clearfield

The Asheville-Buncombe Youth Orchestra is a forty-year-old organization that serves five counties in Western North Carolina and includes public, private and home-schooled students. Over sixty students playing string, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments practice weekly during the school year and showcase their talents in four annual performances.

Since its inception, the orchestra has graduated over a thousand students, 25% of which have gone on to study music in colleges, universities and conservatories. Many dozens have pursued professional careers in music.

Ron Clearfield, cellist, composer and conductor, is an honors graduate from the New England Conservatory of Music has been Music Director and Conductor of the Youth Orchestra since 1994. Mr. Clearfield is also a record artist and recently recorded with Steve Martin on his album “Rare Bird Alert” in a song featuring guest vocalist, Paul McCartney. In 2014 Ron will be releasing a solo album of his own music “The Healing Muse” on the EverSound recording label based in Los Angeles.

The Youth Orchestra concerts are free and open to the public. Please join us in supporting these wonderfully talented young people. The Youth Orchestra is a 501c3 non-profit organization under the ASO and is in part supported by the Buncombe County and Asheville City School Systems but also depends on private and corporate donations.
