Opening Night
@ Thomas Wolfe Auditorium
So what on earth is a Lollapalooza? Well, we hope you’ll think that our Opening Night is a sterling example of one. It’s something so big and special; it cannot be called by any other name. So we begin with John Adams’ brassy, obstreperous romp for an overture. You’ll get the picture as the trombones continue to intone the “lollapalooza” rhythm. Then we introduce one of classical music’s brightest stars – an artist who is forging her own path through performances across the globe. Simone Dinnerstein will perform Ravel’s dashing Piano Concerto in G. As if the evening weren’t already presented in high-definition, we offer Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony, an orchestral spectacle that you expect from Russia’s most beloved composer.
Adams – Lollapalooza
Ravel – Piano Concerto in G, Simone Dinnerstein, piano
Tchaikovsky – Symphony No. 5
