ASO announces new Executive Director

The Board of Directors of the Asheville Symphony is pleased to announce the appointment of David N. Whitehill as the new Executive Director of your Asheville Symphony.  He will replace Steven Hageman who is retiring after managing the orchestra for sixteen seasons of fiscal and artistic growth.  Mr. Hageman will remain with the ASO part time in a fund-development role.

Mr. Whitehill has been the Executive Director of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra for the past five years.  Under his leadership, the Bangor Symphony has expanded its audience base, increased its annual support, and surpassed budget goals.  In 2011, the Bangor Symphony was named “the Non-Profit of the Year” by the local Chamber of Commerce.  David was honored by MaineToday Media as one of the 40 top “Young Business and Community Leaders” in the state.

David will be doing some commuting for a couple of months as he and his wife Jessica are expecting their first child in November.  I hope you will join me in welcoming David and his expanded family to our community, and to our own Asheville Symphony family.
