Recording Projects

The Asheville Symphony Recording Initiative – IDEASOUND – strives to showcase the distinctive cultural and musical landscape of Asheville, Western North Carolina and Southeastern United States. It embraces and magnifies Asheville’s musical heritage while working to dissolve barriers between musical genres. We invite you to hear the sounds of Western North Carolina by clicking above to access ASO Radio or visiting our Spotify page.

Be Still Moses

In 2019, members of the Asheville Symphony Orchestra headed to Nashville, Tennessee to play “Be Still Moses” with Steep Canyon Rangers and Boyz II Men. This is the first time that all three groups have played the track together after it had been recorded in separate studios across the country.  After receiving a standing ovation, the audience called for an encore of the track and the cameras kept on rolling! Enjoy this music video taken live from the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in front of a sold-out house.

The Making of Mozartistic

Mozartistic puts the legacy of Mozart into a modern context, using stylish rhymes to illuminate Mozart’s prodigious childhood, inspiring infinite possibilities in the young minds that hear it. Starting with some of Mozart’s most famous works, Secret Agent 23 Skidoo has re-contextualized them using classic hip-hop beat-making styles, and then taken it one step further by inventing a technique in which a string section mimics the sound of record scratching. These strange bedfellows combine like sweet and sour chicken, with perfect balance and contrast, allowing today’s children to recognize Mozart for the potent rock star he truly was.
