The Asheville Symphony Youth Orchestra (ASYO) proudly announces the winners of its 2025 Concerto Competition, held on March 30 at Central United Methodist Church. This annual event provides ASYO members with an opportunity to prepare and perform challenging solo works for a panel of esteemed judges.
This year’s First Place winner is Benjamin Bernstein, Clarinet, who will be featured as a soloist with the Youth Orchestra during the 2025-2026 season. First Runner-Up honors were awarded to Max Posnock, Xylophone, while Honorable Mentions went to Dalton Howes, Violin and Auralia Manis, Voice.
A total of 16 talented students participated in the competition, showcasing their dedication and musicianship. The ASYO is incredibly proud of their hard work and looks forward to seeing their continued growth and achievements.
“The level of artistry and preparation displayed by our students was truly inspiring,” said ASYO General Manager Tyson Hamrick. “This competition is not only a platform for individual excellence but also a celebration of the musical talent within our ensembles.”

About the Asheville Symphony Youth Orchestra:
The Asheville Symphony Youth Orchestra (ASYO) program serves nearly 200 of the very best young musicians in the greater Asheville area. The program consists of two string orchestras, two symphony orchestras, and one percussion ensemble. Students participate in masterclasses, retreats, workshops, tours and social events. They also receive high quality music instruction from the region’s most respected professional conductors and musicians, and have the opportunity to perform throughout the community.
