The ASYO is honored to have been selected to perform during the North Carolina Music Educators Association’s 2026 Professional Development Conference that takes place from November 7-10 in Winston-Salem. The performance will also mark the beginning of ASYO’s 45th season. NCMEA is the statewide professional organization for music educators, bringing together teachers and music professionals from across North Carolina for professional development, collaboration, and performances. ASYO students will perform as part of the conference’s performance programming, sharing their musicianship with an audience of music educators from across the state.

The program will showcase exceptional student musicians, the ASYO Percussion Ensemble, and music with a strong connection to our community. Two ASYO Concerto Competition winners will be featured: Moses Goldstein, clarinet, performing Artie Shaw’s Clarinet Concerto, and Charlotte Burre, cello, performing the first movement of Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C Major. The orchestra will also perform selections from Suolahti’s Sinfonia Piccola and the world premiere of Dr. Roger Zare’s River’s Rising, a new work inspired by Hurricane Helene and its profound impact on Asheville and Western North Carolina.
